...and in that life there is this thing called the Internet. And it beckons to me.
I missed you guys! I missed the ethereal silence of every post be it journal or deviation. I missed the gutwrenching hurt it is to feel like you're being ignored in a gigantic world full of people, and absolutely none of them want to talk to you.
School has been murderous. I suppose I brought it on myself, but still. Having no off-blocks and being in the Fall Play, while fun, is not good for my sanity in a strange twist of events. Don't get me wrong, I am having a blast with the kids at school, but they just aren't geeky and some are hardly even tech-literate.
So, what have I been doing to keep myself busy? Well, I wish I could say writing. But, the only writing to speak of has been a few boring essays for English (and two for stupid-as-all-get-out Econ). When I'm not writing for English, I'm reading for English. All the other years I had time to read the books at my remarkably slow pace. This year, we have gone through
The Invisible Man,
Antigone,
Genesis,
Exodus, we're starting sonnets, and in a week we'll be on
Frankenstein. We're not even to half way through the second 6 weeks. I might die (kidding).
I picked up The Halflings today, expect another section out soon (we hope). As soon as I feel good enough about it, perhaps you'll get another Tyd Ri and ALBERT. I'm trying to get myself back into writing my way again. I've said before, I feel like I'm just writing another essay sometimes. But today with Halflings it felt like writing again. I hope I can do a brain dump soon because I've been trying to keep so many things upstairs (because they came out awkward on paper).
NaNoWriMo 09 is in a month. Did a quick look at the boards and found a new program, yWriter. It's written by a programmer by trade who's had a scifi series published. I love how it works, plain and simple, no flashy graphics, just boxes to put text in and descriptors written the way a programmer thinks. It feels like an IDE for novel writing

. My one complaint is the complete lack of keyboard shortcuts. When I'm writing, I would rather not stop writing, thus keyboard shortcuts. If I can find a "recommend a feature" link I'll post it here and try to force everyone into requesting the feature.
Still on the NaNoWriMo bent, I've been kicking around an idea for a while (which is usually dangerous) and trying to get it to come to fruition. But it wasn't happening. So then on Friday (I'm telling you, I think my muse took a few months off and is back now) I had a fantastic idea that just blossomed as the day went on. I think that's what I'll be writing over November (you have to be an irl* friend or NaNo website friend to get details or possibly drafts).
*irl is loosely defined.
So, with that in mind, if you're doing NaNoWriMo09 you should definitely add me as a writing buddy. I'm lcarsos there too. Here's a
link to my profile. Thank you muchly!
I wanted to put Slackware 13 on my laptop (and maybe dual-boot Slack and Ubuntu 9.10, or maybe triple-boot those two and Windows for the rare times I need it on a mobile basis). But, Homecoming happened, and too busy for all kinds of stuff.
Umm, I might be done. Yeah, we'll say I'm done.
The hit list:
Edit stories and post
Post some pictures I have waiting around
Continue Anatomy Tails page 4
Teach myself PHP/MySQL (Pretty much done there)
Teach myself piano (getting better)
Teach myself javascript
Learn Flash (I'm figuring it out bit by bit)
Learn Spanish Future tense
Learn Japanese (waiting for a dictionary first)
Hmm... I can't find a Trekkie icon :/ that's sad. I would have spammed you with it
I miss you! Come back sometimes, you guys left big shoes to fill!

Tell me when Access is, nobody's been able to do that thus far. I heard they canceled it O: I certainly hope not, for your sake.

I'll see what I can do once I'm comfortable driving without somebody in the car to yell at me when I try to go off the road...

I originally learned Visual Basic in the 1990's so I could write my own LCARS interface for Windows. Big Star Trek nerd from before it was cool.
Welcome aboard, crewmate.
